Hanwha, Perry Partner to Develop Next-Gen Space Technologies

On the 26th, Hanwha Aerospace announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the space launch startup Perry Aerospace, aimed at establishing a strategic partnership to advance future space transportation technologies.

Through this agreement, both companies will collaborate by sharing their technical and commercial expertise in the development of innovative space transportation technological resources and associated business sectors.Since 2022, Hanwha Aerospace has been involved as a system integrator for the national launch vehicle 'Nuri,' working alongside Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to enhance engine development and testing facilities. The fourth launch of Nuri is planned for the latter half of this year. Additionally, in 2024, Hanwha Aerospace was chosen as a private system integrator for the 'next-generation launch vehicle,' which is intended to launch a lunar lander by 2032.

Perry Aerospace possesses technological Innovation capabilities, which encompass its independently developed small launch vehicle known as 'Blue Whale,' as well as propulsion systems and carbon composite structures.A Hanwha Aerospace official said, “We expect to secure space transportation technologies with global economic and commercial viability in fields such as launch vehicles and eco-friendly space propulsion systems through the synergy of the two companies.”

The collaboration will explore advancements in reusable launch systems, next-generation propulsion, and cost-efficient satellite deployment. Perry Aerospace’s expertise in carbon composites and Hanwha’s system integration capabilities will drive innovation in eco-friendly propulsion. This partnership aims to enhance global competitiveness in commercial space transportation and deep-space exploration technologies.
